I’m back. I actually got back on Monday, at about 6:00 am. Since then I have done a lot of resting and laying on the sofa and eating of crispy bacon (the bacon in South Africa is flacid). I’m feeling better now.
While I was gone I read three whole books. They were good.  One day I’ll tell you about them so you can read them, too.
I also saw a lot of animals and took a lot of pictures. One day I’ll put those pictures online so you can look at them, too.
I learned that “thank you very much” in Afrikaans sounds just like “buy a donkey.”Â
I drank a lot of beer during the day, then would routinely be knocked out completely by a single glass of wine at dinner.
I later realized that’s because the beer startlingly low in alcohol (2.4%) while the wine was generally a ridiculous 16%.Â
I ate desert at least once each day.
I knitted two scarves and half a Christmas stocking.
I got an A in that stupid class that had me so upset.Â
I expected no less.
I’m swamped with work for my other class, though, and with projects at work. Also, it’s November, which means it’s everyone’s birthday. I had a birthday party the night I got back, one tonight, one Saturday I’m skipping, my mom’s on Thanksgiving, and mine shortly thereafter.
Given my recent interactions with lame beer and too many deserts, I’m quite pleased birthday parties these days involve more beer and fewer cupcakes. And that is an odd statement for me to make.
glad you had a good time, minus the flacid bacon. thanks for the kind words. i am more relieved that i could possibly explain.
Welcome home! I can’t wait to hear about your trip! (Oh, and let us know about On Beauty, I love Zadie Smith.)
